Calculus an Applied Approach: An Applied Approach
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (January, 2003)
Authors: Ron Larson, Bruce H. Rdwards, Bruce H. Edwards, and Daniel Manus Pinkwater
Average review score:

It's a calculus book for Christ's sake!
This book is so good I never did any of the homework for the class it was for, only studied the night before each test, and pulled an honest-to-God straight A in the class. But this is calculus. If the text weren't so damn expensive I would have burned it in effigy. The book has nice pictures and the business-based questions are mind-numbingly easy. The science questions blow. If you don't like science, this will re-affirm your feelings. And don't forget that the answers to the odd problems are in the back. Just the answers though, but they still help. Supposedly this book has a suppliment and a CD to it, but I never monkeyed around with that. Didn't even purchase it, come to think of it...

Solid text for high school and introductory college calculus
This book is extremely clear and concise in explaining the basic level calculus. The addded instruction on how to use calculus on a calculator is a nice touch and ensures that the book is up to date. the organization of the material is logical and the difficulty level is perfect for a teacher to teach. It is a good text.

The Call of the Wild: Annotated and Illustrated
Published in Paperback by Univ of Oklahoma Pr (Trd) (June, 1997)
Authors: Jack London and Daniel Dyer
Average review score:

THIS is the edition to get
If you just want a copy of _The Call of the Wild_, to give to a friend, say, this is the one to get.

The elegant Library of America edition of "London: Novels and Stories" has three complete novels _The Call of the Wild_, _White Fang_, _The Sea-Wolf_, and a very well chosen selection of stories. It's great. Viking's _The Portable Jack London_, is cheap and excellent; it's edited by Earle Labor, has _The Call of the Wild_, and an excellent selection of short stories, nonfiction, and letters. If you want copies of _The Call of the Wild_ to give to LOTS of friends, the Dover Thrift Edition is just a buck.

But if you want _just_ The Call of the Wild, this edition is nice enough to give as a gift, is clear and legible, and has just the right amount of pictures and annotations. Not a scholarly work, but every time you get to one of those places where you have a question--where was Dyea? What was the "Chinese lottery?" Could a dog really pull a thousand pound sled? there's Dyer with the answer.

If you're interested in Jack London, take a look at the alt.books.jack-london Internet discussion group--see "about me" for details.

Cancer Chemotherapy Handbook
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Appleton & Lange (15 January, 1994)
Authors: Robert T., Phd Dorr and Daniel D., MD Von Hoff
Average review score:

There is no better single reference source
I am a pharmacist working in an oncology setting. I prepare, dispense and review many chemotherapy orders and have found Dorr's handbook an invaluable tool. This reference brings together not just the usual dosing, side effects and other standard information found in the other references, but, also provides information on 'off-shelf' uses as well. This book is a MUST HAVE for any practitioner in the hematology/oncology field.

Average review score:

Excelent and worthy read for lovers of his fiction.
his book, written in an eclectic and engaging style is surprisingly easy to follow. It is full of intrigue and action, in the tradition of Nana and Odiers other fictional works written in the 70's and early 80's under a sir name.
